What should I know?
Socrates once said, "Let food be
your medicine, and medicine be your food.."
How does resveratrol
work?
Resveratrol works at a
molecular level within the body, and directly effects the gene expression of our DNA. There is a gene within
the body called the SIRT1 gene, and the bio - active components within resveratrol turn this gene on. To
date, there are no other ways that science has found to manipulate this gene expression - aside from severe
caloric restriction. Resveratrol also contains massive amounts of polyphenols and
proanthocyanadins (OPC's), thus resulting in an extraordinarily high ORAC rating. What this means is that resveratrol
is a powerful anti - inflammatory within the body, thus reducing oxidative damage to oxygen - sensitive
tissues within the body.
It has become common knowledge that much of the cellular degeneration and organ breakdown that
occurs within us is driven by oxidative stress.
Where does trans - resveratrol come
from?
Resveratrol (3,4,5 - trihydroxystilbene) is grouped into a
class of polyphenolic compounds better known as stilbenes. There are commonly two types of resveratrol
available today - the "trans" and "çis" variety. The more
expensive and potent trans - resveratrol is derived from the Japanese Knotweed (polygonum cuspidatum). The
cis - resveratrol type is extraced from food by-products that also contain traces of this compound,
albeit in a much less potent form.
One of the reasons trans - resveratrol is such a powerful
compound is because it is produced in some plants in response to stress, injury, bacterial and fungal
infections. The primary reason trans - resveratrol is extracted from the Japanese Knotwood plant is that
concentrations of this active compound are higher than in any other plant currently known to
man.
Why are there two types of
resveratrol?
There are two types of resveratrol that exist in nature,
and these are the "cis" and "trans" configuration. Both
compounds are powerful and directly effect gene expression, but the trans -
resveratrol is what causes the magic to happen! A number of suppliers stock resveratrol at
cheaper prices, but in fact what you are actually purchasing is the much less bio active cis
- resveratrol. Our capsules are filled with 305mg of trans - resveratrol, and can be
verified with the attached documentation.
Is resveratrol
Safe?
Resveratrol has been tested exstensively by science for a
number of years now, and after much investigation has been found to have no cause for concern. Currently
there are 12 human clinical studies underway with a number of them now reaching Phase 3 of testing without
issue. These studies will show the efficacy of resveratrol against various degenerative conditions such as
Alzheimer's disease and the like. Currently there are no contraventions for the use of
resveratrol.

What are the other exipients within your resveratrol
capsule?
We currently stock two types of resveratrol in order to
provide choice for the consumer. Our mid range resveratrol product contains 250mg of 50% pure grade
trans - resveratrol, with an exipient base of approximately 250mg of purple grape skin extract, more
commonly known as pycnogenol (a powerful antioxidant in its own right). Our flagship product contains 305 mg
of pure 98% trans - resveratrol with an excipient base of 195mg of
pycnogenol.
We do not use filler
compounds such as silica, quercetin, glidants, oatbran or other such additives. Although this makes for a
capsule that is more difficult to fill and manufacture, the consumer can be certain that our resveratrol
products are of the highest quality.
What dosage is
best?
It has been found that the optimal dosage of active resveratrol each day is approximately
500 mg of trans - resveratrol. Many companies supplying poor quality resveratrol (usually found in the cis -
form), will suggest you need more a higher dose - but this is not true.
What quality checks does this product
meet?
Our resveratrol meets all of the requirements set out by the
regulatory bodies, whilst also being HACCP, GMP and
FDA certified.
Will resveratrol contravene my other
medication?
In a simple answer, no, taking our resveratrol product will
not affect nor contravene your current
medications.
